Back On Track

Wow...the last two weeks have been something else for me..lol I've been traveling in and out of town and the food has been complimentary but guess what? It hasn't been healthy and I allowed myself to get off track. I already have a sweet addiction and relapse from time to time. I keep sweets out of my house but it's hard to resist when there is a great feast of it.lol Even though I am a fitness trainer, I do get weak sometimes...but because it's a lifestyle, when I get off track, I get back on. A lot of trainers may not have admitted this to you, but I'm human and I mess up too. Eating healthy can be compared to our Christian walk. It's a lifestyle and a journey. So if you're like me and you know you've been slacking, I'm encouraging you to get back on track. Get back in the game. It's amazing what 2 weeks of eating unhealthy can do. I started back and my body has been craving everything but I've been staying strong. Stay focused and let's do this thing. Also follow my health and fitness blogs for tips to help you stay on track. Message To My Fans

I've been getting this question a lot and people want to know what happened because they thought I was a gospel artist. First off, I would like to say thank you for your concern and thank u for your support through the years. With this being my fourth album, every album serves a purpose. I've grown a lot and learned a lot since then. All of my albums have been my heart and this is where I am right now.

Not sure if u know this or not, but on my first album Life In Stereo, they said it wasn't gospel. It was very controversial for many. My second album 'The Lita Mae Show', they felt it wasn't churchy or serious enough for them. With my third album 'Girl Talk', they said the same things. Every album I've done, people expressed what they felt I should have or should not have done. Im saying that to say that I've always done and always will do what was in my heart. If I would've listened to what ppl wanted me to do, I wouldn't have gained the support I've gotten over the years and fans such as yourself.

Any genre that hinders the message is in the way. My fourth album Emotional is not about being Gospel or R&B. I don't make music with a genre in mind. It's me being vulnerable, hoping to help others through me sharing my life. I talk about life, love, and relationships. Unfortunately, 'Gospel' won't allow me to be as vulnerable as I am on this cd. It's where I am in my life right now. I'm being true to myself and I know that what leaves the heart reaches the heart. Again, I appreciate your support through the years and hope that you will support this album as well.

Love u much!! ♥
~Shei~

Overcoming Molestation/Rape

I was molested by an Uncle, Uncle In Law, Brother's Friend and almost by a friends brother at the ages of 4, 10 & 12. You may be like dang, what did you do to bring this on yourself for it to be more than one person...but Did you know that molestation can be a generational curse that runs in your family. A lot of women in my family have been raped and molested and some by family members...same as me. How is it that I've experienced the same thing older women in my family went through and these abusers don't even know each other? Generational Curse...but there is a way out..through Jesus Christ. I wrote this blog today bc for some reason, the enemy tried to remind me of all this junk today and me being the authentic person that I am knows that if He's trying to remind me of it, I know he's trying to remind you too. So, since he wanted to remind me of that, I wrote this blog to remind you of what Jesus will do for you.lol

There are negative effects that come with molestation...many times the violators are ppl you know..1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are molested. The negative effects are low-self esteem, promiscuity, perversion, etc...You can be restored. You just have to be willing to make the step to Him bc He's waiting on you.

It's time to start loving yourself. It's time to break the cycle of molestation and you can overcome. But the first thing u gotta do is acknowledge something happened. We bury this stuff so deep and wonder why we do certain things. It's time for you to release the past and embrace the future. It's time for you to no longer allow your abuser to have control over your life. Allow God to heal that place...you may wonder why God would allow that to happen. Do you know the enemy is comes to steal, kill, and destroy. He's always looking for someone to jack up. But guess what, God had your back all along.

We walk around with bitterness and angry in our hearts...but God is ready to heal. Inspite of everything that has happened, we have to keep pushing. Being molested causes so many emotional issues in our lives...from fear to insecurity to low self worth. But guess what, you're not what happened to you...you are who God says you are! My question to you is, what will you do if the person never apologizes to you. Will you still hold on to bitterness and unforgiveness? You can't. You gotta forgive whether they apologize or not.

I talk about this a little in my book "Get a Man, Keep a Man" and I just wanted to touch on it a little more & encourage you to let go and know that I understand your pain. Know that it is a process but you will get through it.

1.U gotta forgive....
2. Know that forgiveness is a choice and u'll never do it if you're waiting until u feel like it.
3. You can't do it withough God, depend on Him...
4.Pray for your abuser...
5. Release...u gotta let it go to move forward...don't keep moving through life like nothing ever happened. Face it and let it go...it's time to release...it's time to release...

God doesn't have a problem with R&B, it's man!

Just got out the shower and I was thinking about something.....I was thinking about the world and everything going on in it. I started thinking about a conversation I had today about music. We were talking about how some people are so quick to judge a person if they aren't singing gospel. This is a personal subject for me bc I've experienced judgment from my own brothers and sisters in Christ about my music. People leave me comments all the time saying "I thought you did gospel" and how I'm compromising. It really gets on my nerves. I appreciate and thank my true fans who've been holding me down all 4 albums. Thank you. This blog is just questions I think about all the time about some of us Christians and our views on music and is not meant to try to change anybody's mind or offend anyone. It's just my thoughts....

Why is it that when a person says they're going to college, no one judges them and asks them why they aren't going to a christian college? Why is it when someone says I'm going to apply for a job as an accountant in the secular world, no one judges them and asks why they won't go work and do accounting for a church? It's because we need these jobs so the world can run. We need banks...we need bank tellers, etc. Why is it when painters paint their pictures, no one tells they can only paint pictures of Jesus? But for some reason when it comes to music, when you say you do anything other than gospel, some people in the church say you are 'of the world' and need to come sing gospel. Why is pursuing a 'secular' career in music looked at differently than any other secular job to some Christians? This gets frustrating at times, but I remember MY purpose and keep going...understanding everyone won't see your vision. Reminds me of a quote by Tony Gaskins.."Everybody won't understand everything because everything isn't for everybody so get what's for you."

Some of us have coworkers, bosses, etc that we work with and know they aren't saved or living right. But we go do our job and ask God to let our lights shine around them while we go work our 'secular' jobs...ie accountants, receptionist, teacher, bus driver, cook, cashier, etc. We hear them cursing, see them cheating & No one has a problem with that. No one says quit your job because you're around those sinners all day. But when it comes to music, if you're not singing gospel, you're looked at with the sideeye. But when you work in corporate America,at a Burger King , or at a school, no one thinks of it in the same way. Remember...those are 'secular jobs' as well.

To sum it up....I believe it is our job to let our light shine no matter what our job is. It's not God that judges us based on a music genre, it's man! At the same time, I believe when we have Christ in our hearts, we'll be mindful of what we do and what comes out of our mouth. No matter what we do, we should point people to Jesus and do our best to live for Him. We all have different purposes and God uses different methods to reach people, but we all have one thing in common...to let our light shine and be witnesses for Christ. Don't be so closed minded as to box God into a music genre. He's bigger than that. God uses people everywhere. This is nothing against gospel music because I absolutely love gospel music. As a matter of fact, I have gospel songs. All I'm saying is that singing Gospel is an awesome tool, but it's not the only way God uses people in this life.

Don't define me or any other person by a music genre because you don't know how God is using them behind the scenes. Last, always remember to pray for people when you feel they are doing something you don't understand or doing something you 'feel' they shouldn't be doing because when you talk about them to others instead of talking to them in love and out of concern, you mess up your chance of ever reaching them. You will always win people over with love far easier than criticizing them and pushing them away. Remember that. Loving is #winning. Judging.. #thataintwinning.

PS. To those who feel that singing R&B is wrong...know that there is a whole book in the Bible dedicated to romance & love songs...Song of Solomon...go read it for yourself. God has no problem with it. It's us. It's not for everyone to do, but it has its place in the world. :)

"Emotional"

If anyone knows how to bring the worst out of a woman...it's a man.lol Our man or those closest to us see us like no one sees us. They see that part of us that we hide from those we want to impress. The hear the nagging, they see the finger pointing and head shaking. The hear the yells. They receive the back to back phone calls and sarcasm. All we really want is to feel loved and appreciated by our man.

My new single is called "Emotional" and it was written to help a man better understand how we work. I had to do it ladies.lol Check it out right here....my brand new single...."Emotional". www.sheiatkins.com
